It’s time for some animal fun, again! I’ve been pretty “obsessed” lately with taking Thea to a farm. I feel she’s changing a lot these days and is starting to understand much more, so I thought it was about time to put some ‘real’ beings behind all those “woof, woof”, “meow, meow” and “moo, moo” sounds she’s learning from her books.
Today I’d like to introduce to you Nordre Lindeberg Gård, a small farm in Furuset, just a 15 minute drive from Oslo. The farm itself is not too big, but has a good variety of animals: cows, horses, pigs, chicken, geese, rabbits, goats, sheep and cats. Not bad, right?! Most of them were kept indoors when we visited because of the weather I guess, but you’ll find them outside when it gets warmer again. The animals seemed to be in quite good conditions and were very calm and friendly towards kids. There were a few very funny sheep that were standing by their stable doors and would “baaaaa” at you to come pet them.
I really liked how they had put signs on every stable to tell a bit about each animal: name, age, gender and some other interesting facts. Ok, my one-year-old did obviously not pay too much attention to those details, but other kids seemed really interested. I thought it was a great idea because it taught children that those were not “just” animals, but a being with a background and a name that they needed to treat with care and respect.
They also run some really fun children-friendly activities on Sundays, such as hopping on the hay (how cool is that!?) and horse activities. The hay hopping takes place between 11:00-15:00 and the horse activities go from 12:00-14:30 and cost 20 NOK.
And if you have a rabbit or a guinea pig at home, you’ll love this... Nordre Lindeberg Gård offers to host them while you’re on holidays :). You can have a look at their “hotel” rates here.
There’s a small café that opens Sundays from 11:00-15:00. Oh, and a cute, teeny-tiny hytte with a few books and toys where your kids can read, play or eat their matpakker. And if the weather allows it, you can also sit outside and have a little picnic on one of the many picnic tables available.
