In today's post I want to tell you about my new favourite lunch restaurant in Oslo: a vegan (please, keep reading!) place called Funky Fresh Foods. -If you made it until here, congrats! I know many people that would've left immediately after reading 'vegan'. I myself am not a vegan and I found it delicious!-
Where is it?
They're located inside the DOGA (Norsk design og arkitektursenter), in front of Akerselva and just behind the Grünerløkka Jacob church. But here you go, Google Maps will be much better at giving you directions than me ;).
So I've lived in Grünerløkka for over a year now and have probably strolled around all strollable streets and paths here and had still never seen it. This is really annoying because I've been complaining about not finding veggie friendly restaurants in Oslo for so long now… and there’s one literally around the corner from us(oops!).
Can I take my baby?
We went there for lunch with a friend, her 15 month old daughter and Thea, who's 1 year old. The space is not intentionally made to go with kids -meaning there is no playing area or anything-, but it's very child friendly. It's spacious, big wooden tables, bright, there is space for strollers, they have baby chairs and there's a changing table in the bathroom. Each of our girls got a nice, high chair and managed to sit for almost 30 mins (wow!). But eventually, they did end up walking and crawling everywhere and we running after them. So I'd say it's best to come here with a non-crawling baby. And if your little one is still sleeping in the stroller next to you while you eat (what an idyllic picture!), even better. You should have no problems leaving your barnevogn next to your table.
If the weather's nice though, I would totally recommend you to sit outside. They have a lovely terrace surrounded by grass. I'd say that would be the easiest with kids.
And the food?
I had a suuuper yummy black bean veggie burger and Thea had falafel (and of course, half of my dish). The deserts were equally delicious! We tried blueberry chocolate cake and chocolate mint cake. The blueberry one was amazing! We also took some coconut crunchies home, gone in 2 days!. Feel free to have a look at the menu and the prices here.
Oh, and if you're looking for vegan ingredients, there is a small store inside the restaurant with a nice selection of plant-based products. If you come here with toddlers, you'll find yourself a lot in there using "ahhh... careful!" more than you wished ;).
